I’m Motiul Islam, a public speaker and property investor born and raised in the East End of London. Ultimately, I’m a man passionate about property investment and whose vision is to reach out and help other enthusiastic investors like myself get started on their property journey, build a strong network of investors themselves and ultimately achieve their goals.
My journey into the world of property started back when I was 19 and studying for a BA in Economics and a BSc in Business Information Technology at the University of London. I was already used to thinking outside the box for my degree and was very interested in investing in other areas, which eventually led me to start investing in property. I began my property investment career alongside studying for my degree, so while I had to attend lectures and study, I also had to find time for negotiating property deals.
The first three property deals I made saw me get gazumped, and I learnt the hard way how difficult the industry can be. However, this didn’t deter me, and after getting straight back up and back in the saddle after these setbacks, I managed to secure my very first property at just 23 years old.
From then on, I continued to buy properties one after the other. The strategy I built was based on ‘no money down’ structured deals, which involves buying properties for little or no money and developing them from there. My portfolio continued to grow and grow, with extensions, developments and even title splits under my belt.
Within a year, I hit all of my initial goals ahead of my rough time frame, and then the plan was to retire from property. However, I was still only young and my passion was still alive, so this saw me return to the property investment field and begin to share my experience with fellow investors. My vision is simple: I want to help both those who need assistance to get their foot on the property ladder, as well as lend advice to the more established investors who might also benefit from my experience.
My areas of expertise are mainly around deals: finding, doing and structuring them. However, I also have experience with houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs), title splits, rent to rent, developments and refurbishments. My more recent projects involve ongoing developments of commercial properties, some joint ventures and the mentoring of peers in my areas of expertise.
Over the years, I’ve taken a hands-on approach, ever since my first foray into the property field, and I’ve managed to build up a friendly, quality professional network of property investors that I consider to be my friends.
